The Story Behind AIRO

AIRO began during a time of change in my life.

Before starting the business, I spent many years working in large organisations. Like many careers, it wasn’t always predictable and over the years I experienced redundancy twice.

The second time it happened, I had the benefit of a bit of money to take my time and use the opportunity to explore something I had always wanted to do.

Plus I’m a mum to two children, who take up a lot of my time :) and one of them has been going through regular hospital treatment. Being present for my family during that time made me realise just how important flexibility really is.

The idea of building something of my own suddenly felt meaningful in a different way not just as a career change, but as a way to create a life that worked better for our family.

A Lifelong Love of Making

Looking back, creativity has always been part of who I am.

As a child I was always making something from birthday cards, crafts, little projects. That curiosity stayed with me as I got older. Over the years I experimented with pottery, soap making during lockdown, and many other creative hobbies.

But the thing that fascinated me most was scent.

Smell has an incredible ability to transport you back to a moment in time. A familiar fragrance can instantly reconnect you with a place, a memory or a feeling.

That idea that scent can shape how we feel really stayed with me.

Learning the Power of Aromatherapy

I decided to retrain in aromatherapy, wanting to understand how essential oils work and how they can support wellbeing.

What I discovered was fascinating. Natural fragrances don’t just smell beautiful, they can help us relax, reset, feel uplifted or create moments of calm in our everyday lives.

I knew then that I wanted to bring these scents into people’s homes.

Creating AIRO

AIRO began with candles, carefully crafted with scent combinations designed to evoke feeling and memory.

Since then, the collection has grown to include room mists, loo drops and wax melts, all created with the same intention: to bring beautiful fragrance into everyday spaces.

Every product is designed to make you feel good.

The Journey Continues

AIRO is still just over a year old, and the journey is only beginning.

What started as a moment of uncertainty after redundancy has grown into something creative, flexible and deeply meaningful.

Building this business has allowed me to support my family in a way that works for us, while creating products that bring small moments of joy into other people's homes too.
